  • I'm back, I'm back... *Clunk* My back, my back...

    Greetings.

I returned from my trip to PA yesterday. My church had a Men's Retreat at a stone mansion, also known as The Castle that I attended over the weekend. I was very glad that I went. Growing close to the Lord is always awesome, especially in the company of other men. As always, I took lots of pictures. 422 pictures to be exact. However, I only put up 117 of those pictures on my website. ( http://www.medlong.com/jesse for the latest pictures I've uploaded to my site). Also, it was nice hanging out with friends and with guys I've never met before. I went exploring with three guys I never met and I listened to stories from another guy I never met before. Sweet stuff.

It's Monday and I leave this Wednesday for my trip to Ukraine for Nato's wedding. Man, I'm just a regular traveler. That trip should be fun as well. Though, I still need to pack for the trip! I'll have to find time to pack today (most of my clothes is dirty from my PA trip) and tomorrow (I'll be working all morning and afternoon).

Also, pray for Dad, Mom, Jake, Seth and I for as we travel across great bodies of water and land over the next two weeks. We will return back home on May 13th, woohoo!

Well, I'm out like a fat kid in Dodge-ball.

    Later...

    Can You Hear Us?

    "My life for You..."

Well, I had a good time this afternoon with some of my friends. When I’m with a specific group of friends, its really nice. I like the fellowship of other people. It makes me yearn for it even more. After every time I fellowship with this group, I often think of my future wife when I contemplate the day. This specific train of thought is usually sparked when listening to some amazing Worship songs praising God. Its usually the slow songs with a strong meaning that gets me.

Tonight, the song that sparked my train of thought of my future wife was called “Obsession” by David Crowder Band. The song deals with one’s relationship with the Lord. One needs the Lord. We all need the Lord.

Back to my train of thought, as a guy in my late teens, I often think about a potential relationship I could have with a woman of my own age. Sometimes its of no one in mind and sometimes with a certain someone in mind, but that thought soon ends when I remember the ambition I’ve set for my life.

This life ambition of mine is simple. I want to serve the Lord in every way I can. Until the Lord reveals to me the woman I will marry someday, I’m not going to enter any relationships with any woman, let alone “liking” anyone. Some people may argue that if I don’t “like” any girls or show interest in them, I’ll never get married. Well, I have faith that the Lord will reveal to me when its time for me to enter a relationship with a woman and whom I will enter the relationship with. I’m counting on the Lord to direct my life. I may get married in five year or 10 years. It could be longer. Until then, I want to serve the Lord in every aspect of my life.

This also brings a similar issue to mind, people ask me what I want to do after high school. Honestly, I don’t have a real plan in mind. However, I know that the Lord wants me in Ministry. More specifically, either being a missionary or a pastor or something else. This could be a “full-time job” or a “part-time job.” I don’t know.

With this in mind, the Lord has put on my heart to go to Bible college. Whether for just a semester or longer. I’m just relying on the Lord. I also have a specific college I want to attend, in Hungary, but I don’t know how I will come up with the funds. Abraham said to Isaac “God will provide the Lamb,” similarly, I believe God will provide my funds for college.

This whole thing has been in my head for months (and longer) and I’ve finally decided to blurt it out. Meh, it happens. Now, its time to write a paper for school. Joys… I’ll end the post with the lyrics to the song I mentioned earlier. God Bless.

“What can i do with my obsession
With the things i cannot see
Is there madness in my being
Is it the wind that moves the trees?
Sometimes You’re further than the moon
Sometimes You’re closer than my skin
And You surround me like a winter fog
You’ve come and burned me with a kiss

And my heart burns for You
    And my heart burns...for You

And i’m so filthy with my sin
i carry pride like a disease
You know i’m stubborn, Lord, and i’m longing to be close
You burn me deeper than i know
And i feel lonely without hope
And i feel desperate without vision
You wrap around me like a winter coat
You come and free me like a bird

    my love burns for You
and my heart feels for You
    my life good for You
all i have burns for you you
burns, burns, oh la la la la la la
    my love burns for You
and my heart burns for You
    you for you for you
and my heart burns for You
    my love burns
    my heart feel
    my life good
    all i have for you
    my love burns
    my heart feel
    my life good
all i have for you “

  • Who is Jesus?

I had to write two opinion-editorial article for my Journalism class last week. One I wrote about Easter and the other about Jesus. Yes, my Savior. I decided to post it here to provoke some thoughts about Him who was pierced for my transgressions.

    Enjoy!

What do some people say Jesus the Nazarene is?
    By Jesse Medlong

Jesus of Nazareth. You may have heard of Him before. He goes by a few names such as the Son of Man, the Christ, Rabbi, or Jesus Christ. Some people know of His name, but not a whole lot about Him. Who was He and who do you think He is?

Who was Jesus? The Bible is the source for all original information about this Jesus I’m referring to. According to the Bible, Jesus was born of virgin birth in a town known as Bethlehem. He grew up in a place called Nazareth from His youth until His late 20s or early 30s.

Jesus often referred to himself as the Son of Man. This sometimes perplexed the people He spoke to. When He began His ministry, He preached about the Kingdom of Heaven.

In short, the Bible says He was born into this world to save every person from their “sins” by dying a criminal’s death on a cross by crucifixion, though He was innocent of death. By doing this hard task, He would redeem every person from spiritual death so that they may live spiritual by accepting His free gift of Salvation and believing in His name.

Jesus also claimed that He was the Son of God. In the gospel of Matthew, chapter sixteen, verses thirteen through twenty, in the New American Standard Bible, it says:
“[Jesus began] asking His disciples, “Who do people say that the Son of Man is?” And they said, “Some say John the Baptist; and others, Elijah; but still others, Jeremiah, or one of the prophets.” He said to them, “But who do you say that I am?” Simon Peter answered, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.” And Jesus said to him, “Blessed are you, Simon Barjona, because flesh and blood did not reveal this to you, but My Father who is in heaven.“”

By affirming Simon Peter’s statement, Jesus claimed He was the Christ, the Son of the living God. That’s a radical statement to make. This information helps us to know who Jesus really was.

    C. S. Lewis, who was a professor at Cambridge University and once an agnostic, what this about Jesus. He writes:

“I am trying here to prevent anyone saying the really foolish thing that people often say about Him: ‘I’m ready to accept Jesus as a great moral teacher, but I don’t accept His claim to be God.’

That is the one thing we must not say. A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic on a level with the man who says he is a poached egg or else he would be the Devil of Hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the son of God: or else a madman or something worse.“”

Lewis confronted the thought some people have about Jesus. Josh McDowell wrote similarly in this quote about Jesus. He writes:

“But if He was a liar, then He was also a hypocrite because He told others to be honest, whatever the cost, while He himself taught and lived a colossal lie. More than that, He was a demon, because He told others to trust Him for their eternal destiny. If He couldn’t back up His claims and knew it, then He was unspeakably evil. Last, He would also be a fool because it was His claims to being God that led to His crucifixion.

“Many will say that Jesus was a good moral teacher. Let’s be realistic. How could He be a great moral teacher and knowingly mislead people at the most important point of His teaching His own identity?

“You would have to conclude logically that He was a deliberate liar. This view of Jesus, however doesn’t coincide with what we know either of Him or the results of His life and teachings.”

Both Lewis and McDowell confronted the thoughts some people have of Christ. I whole heartily believe what Jesus said about Himself, and what both Lewis and McDowell wrote about Him. But I thought, “What do my fellow classmates believe about Jesus?”

As of April 2nd, I surveyed thirty students from Ohio Virtual Academy for their opinions about who Jesus the Nazarene is.

Out of the twenty-nine students I surveyed, only 3.3% of them said they thought Jesus never existed, while 6.7% of the students thought Jesus was just a prophet or a good teach. An overwhelming 90% of the students I surveyed believed Jesus is “the Christ, the Son of God.”

This is only a glimpse of what people really think of Jesus. There are the other 6+ billion people in the world that have various beliefs about Jesus. I hope that whoever reads this article will think twice about their belief about this Jesus of Nazareth.

I know what I believe about Him, do you?

    Phone call

I was checking our family's voice mail for the home phone and I stumbled across an old phone message from my brother Nate. It's pretty ironic to his current status. In the message he says he's not married and doesn't have a girlfriend. Well, he's now engaged to be married. Heh...

Being the geek as I am, I recorded the message onto my computer and uploaded it here! You can listen to it, too!

    Enjoy!
